The University of Ljubljana was founded 1919. It is famous for its study courses in social sciences and humanities as well as in scientific and engineering fields, in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine. At the domestic and international level, the study courses and research activities run by the University of Ljubljana follow the world trends in these fields, to which the contribution of numerous Slovenian professors and researchers is of great importance.
Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana is one of the most important institutions for the education of teachers in Slovenia with 12 undergraduate and 6 postgraduate and doctoral study programs. It provides also in-service training for teachers. Educational research and counselling are becoming its vital activities. At present it has a research and teaching staff of nearly 200. More than 100 have doctorates. Faculty of Education participates in many national and European reserach and development projects in the field of social pedagogy and special pedagogy, pre-school education and classroom education, didactics of mathematics, science and computer science as well as in contemporary approaches in fine arts and music education.
